Colombian Coffee with Milk: Choose Your Roast and Balance Your Cup
For Colombian coffee with milk, start with a roast you already enjoy, measure the milk you add, and adjust one thing at a time. A medium-dark or dark roast is worth comparing if you want a more roast-forward cup, but milk does not require you to abandon medium roast.
The useful question is not which roast is universally best. It is whether your preferred amount of milk leaves you with the coffee flavor you want. Here is a simple way to find that balance using the ANASU range.
Choose a starting bag
For a medium-roast starting point, choose ANASU Armenia Medium Roast. To compare a darker option, try ANASU Manizales Medium Dark Roast or ANASU Tolima Dark Roast. If French roast is already your preference, ANASU Huila French Roast is the relevant bag to explore.
These are shopping suggestions based on the labeled roast levels, not a claim that we have tested every product with every kind of milk. Use the complete roast guide if you want to compare the whole lineup first.
A little milk and a milk-heavy coffee are different recipes
A small splash changes your drink less than filling half the mug with milk. Before changing the coffee, find out how much milk you actually use. Pour your usual amount into a measuring cup once, or weigh it as you add it, and write down that amount.
For a simple tasting exercise, brew one batch of coffee and divide it equally between two cups. Add a small measured amount of milk to one and twice that amount to the other. Taste both at a comfortable temperature. That tells you more about your preference than switching roast, coffee dose and milk all at once.
Build a repeatable morning cup
- Brew your chosen ground coffee with equipment and a grind that suit each other.
- Use the same coffee dose and water amount for your comparison.
- Add milk gradually, stopping when the balance tastes right to you.
- Record the coffee, dose and milk amount so tomorrow’s cup starts in the same place.
- If you want to try another roast, keep the other measurements unchanged.
If a large amount of milk overwhelms your usual brew, try a smaller amount first. Making the coffee darker and making the drink more concentrated are different changes. You can prefer either result, but it helps to know which change you are making.
Can I use oat or another plant-based drink?
Use the product you like and follow its preparation instructions. Different brands can taste and behave differently, so keep the brand and quantity consistent while you compare coffees. Check the package when ingredients or dietary requirements matter to you; this guide does not make allergen or nutrition claims.
For an iced version, measure the ice too
Milk is not the only addition that changes the strength of an iced drink. Melting ice adds water. Start with our iced Colombian coffee recipe, then add a measured amount of milk to the finished coffee.
A brewed filter coffee with milk is not automatically an espresso-based latte. If you want to make a drink from capsules, first check the compatible capsule options for your machine.
