Colombian Coffee for Brunch: How to Plan for Your Guests

Plan coffee for brunch by counting coffee drinkers, choosing an actual serving size and allowing for the refills you expect. An eight-person table does not necessarily need eight large mugs at once, and your machine’s cup markings may not match the cups you set out.

A little planning helps you buy a sensible amount of Colombian ground coffee without opening several bags unnecessarily. The examples below are planning calculations, not catering guarantees or a promise that every guest will want the same drink.

Start with servings, not the size of the guest list

Ask three quick questions: how many people expect coffee, will you serve small cups or mugs, and are you offering one round or likely refills? For a worked example, assume 200 milliliters of finished coffee per serving and one initial serving per coffee drinker.

Example finished-coffee demand, before brewing losses
Coffee drinkers One 200 ml round With 50% more servings
4 800 ml 1,200 ml
6 1,200 ml 1,800 ml
8 1,600 ml 2,400 ml

The refill column is an assumption you can change, not a prediction. If only four of eight guests drink coffee, use the four-person row. If everyone prefers a 300 ml mug, multiply servings by 300 instead.

Translate the plan into your brewer’s batches

Measure the finished output of a familiar recipe before the occasion. Grounds retain some water, so the amount you pour into the reservoir is not the amount you can serve. Divide the total finished-coffee demand by the actual output per batch, then round up to a whole batch.

For example, suppose your own trial produces 800 ml from a batch using 60 grams of grounds. Eight 200 ml servings require two such batches, using 120 grams of coffee. Adding four refills means three batches, using 180 grams. This is an illustration of the arithmetic; use your measured output and recipe, not an assumed universal 800 ml yield.

A 0.55 lb ANASU bag is approximately 250 grams. In that example it covers 180 grams with some left for another day. If you also brew a different roast, calculate its use separately. The bag-yield guide is useful for ongoing household planning.

Choose one main coffee and an optional second choice

ANASU Armenia Medium Roast or ANASU Santa Marta Mountain Medium Roast gives you a medium-roast main option. Offer ANASU Tolima Dark Roast separately if you know guests prefer dark roast. Keep ANASU Vanilla Flavored Medium Roast or ANASU Hazelnut Flavored Medium Roast in a clearly labeled second pot if you choose a flavored option, rather than surprising someone expecting unflavored coffee.

Confirm dietary and caffeine preferences directly with guests. A roast name or flavored-coffee name is not an allergen statement, and none of these suggestions should be described as decaf unless the specific product says so.

Set up before everyone arrives

  • Count cups, filters and dry measuring tools the day before.
  • Use the brewer within its stated capacity; split the plan into batches when needed.
  • Label each server with its actual coffee, and place milk and sweeteners separately.
  • Use a suitable thermal server according to its instructions, and keep hot equipment out of crowded serving paths.
  • Keep unopened coffee sealed until needed.
