ANASU Tolima Dark Roast and Huila French Roast bags with two white coffee cups

Dark Roast vs French Roast Colombian Coffee: Tolima or Huila?

French roast is a dark-roast style, while Colombian identifies where coffee comes from. A coffee can be both Colombian and French roasted. In the ANASU range, compare ANASU Tolima Dark Roast with ANASU Huila French Roast when you are choosing between the bag labeled dark roast and the bag labeled French roast.

Both current products are available ground in 0.55 lb bags. That shared format lets you focus on the actual coffees and your preferred cup, rather than buying a new brewer just to try a different roast.

Separate three details on the label

Label detail What it tells you
Colombian The coffee’s country of origin
Dark or French roast The seller’s description of roasting style
Ground The format you receive for brewing

The National Coffee Association includes French roast among dark-roast names and notes variation between roasters. French roast is not a separate coffee species and does not mean the coffee was grown in France. Nor does the word dark tell you whether the contents are whole beans or already ground.

What the Tolima listing says

The Tolima product is labeled dark roast. Its description emphasizes balance and subtle sweetness and suggests it as an after-dinner coffee. If you already shop for a dark roast, this is the direct match to that label in the ANASU lineup.

Use that description as a starting point for choosing, then brew it with your regular recipe. A product’s origin name is not a promise that every coffee sold from the same region will have the same taste.

What the Huila listing says

Huila is labeled French roast. Its description refers to a balanced cup with a chocolate note. If you have been looking specifically for Colombian French roast ground coffee, this is the ANASU product to compare.

The two labels alone do not give us measured roast-color readings or a product-specific caffeine comparison. Choose Huila because you want to explore the listed French-roast offering, rather than assuming a precise roasting temperature or a guaranteed caffeine difference.

Choose around the way you drink coffee

  • For a familiar dark-roast routine: begin with Tolima and your usual brewing dose.
  • For a French-roast preference: begin with Huila and compare it with the coffee you currently buy.
  • For coffee with milk: use the same amount of milk in each trial so it does not overwhelm one sample more than the other.
  • For a two-bag comparison: order one of each and keep the rest of the preparation consistent.

Want an option closer to medium roast? Read the Armenia versus Manizales comparison before moving further along the roast range. The complete ANASU roast guide gives the full lineup.

Compare the coffees, then repeat your favorite

Measure the grounds and water, use a clean brewer and let each sample cool to a comfortable drinking temperature. Make a note about how it tastes in your normal serving, not only how it smells when you open the bag. For a more organized session, use our three-coffee tasting method.

If a cup seems too intense, review the recipe as well as the bag. A concentrated brew and a dark roast are different things. The coffee-to-water ratio chart can help you keep that distinction clear.

Choose ANASU Tolima Dark Roast or ANASU Huila French Roast, then review the current price and shipping at checkout. You can also shop ANASU Colombian ground coffee to compare every available roast.
